Doubts about preferences?

Just a quick question:
What happens if we start to have doubts about our selections and change our mind regarding our course preferences during the period of time before offers?
i.e. We feel more passionate about doing our second preference than our first.
Is there any way to change it?

I'm in a similar situation as you, so I did some research and I'm pretty sure applying for an irregular offer is the way to go if you are definitely sure you want your second preference over the first. I think you have to wait until you get your first offer, and then fill in a form for the course you actually want (i.e. your second preference), then the people in charge of overseeing admissions to that course decide whether or not they want to/can take you. I think it is advised that you accept your first round offer either way though in case you don't get the irregular offer, because if you don't you may end up with no offers :/
I'm pretty sure this is what happens, can anyone else can offer some clarification? Maybe have a look at what VTAC says about irregular offers.

I'm also in your position
I couldnt decide between two courses and listed the course with the higher ATAR as my first preference
what are the chances of getting an irregular offer into bcom at UoM?
relatively low?
has anyone been successful?

hmm but does applying for an irregular offer mean declining the offer given based on our preferences?

Yes.  If you receive an offer that you don't want but rather an offer that wasn't on your list or an offer below your Round 1 offer, then you must apply for an Irregular Offer.  Second round offers does not necessarily mean you will definitely receive and offer and if you're hoping for a course lower on your list, then there is absolutely no chance you will receive an offer for that course in Round 2.

An Irregular Offer means that you forfeit all other options and preferences and go for the one you really want.  For more info, go here and scroll down to "Irregular Offers".

Not really.  Because if you've met all the pre-requisites, got above the Clearly-In, then there's really not much stopping you.  That's why you give the institution a call to see if they'll let you in, and if they give you the all clear, just fill in the form, get a signature, and you're all set to go.

Do you mean you forfeit all other options once you decide to lodge an irregular offer, or when you get accepted into it? Does that make sense? If i don't get accepted into the course that is LOWER than course given to me in the first round of offers, do i have another chance to lodge another irregular offer, or am i stuck with only the first course?

I changed my mind about my preferences after I got an offer to Biomed and got an irregular offer to Science so yep, it does happen.
