@ Eva, ninwa, Nirbaan, mind saying what kind of doctors your parent(s) are, and maybe how they feel about their specialty?

My father is a GP, and he's extremely busy, to the extent where he often comes home at late, late hours.  To be fair, he also works in local politics (don't ask), so he gets extra hours added on from that as well.  He's never talked too much about his job, although I've heard him bitch about medicine a few times here and there, and also I'm under the impression his job is pretty routine (hence why I mentioned repetitive work).

My mother works in Chinese medicine, although she also has a PhD in Psychology and an MBBS equivalent from Peking University.  She absolutely hated studying medicine, and basically made it clear to me that I'd probably hate it too because of how much I can't stand rote learning (for the record she actively encourages my younger brother to do med...).  On the flip side, she actually enjoys practicing, although what she practices is essentially a combination of Chinese medicine (including acupuncture, etc.), nutrition, and counselling.  She also lectures in Chinese medicine at somewhereorother.  The flip side of the flip side is that she doesn't actually make that much money at all, although this is partially because she intentionally doesn't put an excessive amount of effort in terms of finding patients (she works a very small, private practice).

They are typically nurses.. is that what you mean? Or did you want to be an anaesthesiologist?

In Australia it's anaesthetist, in America it's anaesthesiologist.

Yes, it's stupid.

Don't think they earn the highest salary amongst all specialties.
