Math- erasable pens for those who take up a lot of space/ tend to make mistakes, if you don't do this normal pen. But pencil for multiple choice.

Science- pencil multiple choice, pen for short answer

English- pen/ erasable pen- for essays if need be.

But some erasable pens are dodgy, and smudge so make sure to get a decent one.

It's always pencil for mc and pen for short answer- vcaa suggests.

none. By their nature they're unsteady and can be rubbed out over time by friciton / heat / cold etc.

Doesn't anyone here just bring ~50 pens and pencils into the exam like me?

Three highlighters, two black pens, one blue pen, one red pen and a sleep deprived/addled/caffeinated brain.

The science exams are uploaded onto a monitor for examiners to see, that's why they have that border saying "DON'T WRITE PAST THIS" because it won't be seen.

And because it's been uploaded to a monitor you will ideally want to write in pen as it's more legible for the examiner to read.

I'd hate to screw up an extended Stoich question in pen though, that would really suck.

Maths - pencil

Science - pen is preferred, but I did a couple of exams in pencil without worry

English - blue pen

I used a 3B mechanical for all my exams except for English where I used a Pilot G-2 gel-pen

I recommend a very inky pen for the english exam to reduce the pressure pen on your wrist. I hardly felt the pain with that pen

B is lighter than 2B - I chose 3B because I love reading my writing from 48329048320km away (I've stuck with the 3B in my drawing thread so you can tell how dark it is)

plus you can make your teachers shut up if they go on about whether the lead will smudge or if its too light for the examiner to read

does 2B smudge in exam?

dont think so, unless you have very sweaty hands or lean your hand on the paper so hard that you break the table...

Everyone has their own take:)

As for me, I would use an erasable pen for science exams, pencil in maths (unless they get bitchy with me....i means its spesh, you gotta make mistakes.....or maybe thats just me) and definately a blue pen for english, because pencil smudges easily (specially 2B and darker) and if its stacked among 200 other essays, its bound it get on something...
