Baby sisters + laptops = HELP!!

okkayy.. so i just left the laptop on the floor next to my bed with the screen down to get something... came back and found my baby sister crawling over it ... opened it and the screen was cracked... the screen of my NEW laptop...
i am on the verge of tears and am working out how to break the news to my parents... its cracked down the screen so that its all purple-ish black behind it... you know what i'm talking about guys...
i swear i'm responsible... i shouldn't have left it on the floor... but i wanted it to be next to the powerpoint and thought there was a chance my sister would walk in and pull on the cord so the laptop would fall off my bed.... my parents are going to be so madd!! What do i do ??!! :S

Hmm...

I'd say it can be fixed at a not so expensive price if it's just a screen (~100). You don't have to throw the laptop away and I guess it's just a thing that comes with having baby sisters :)

I don't know your parents so I'm not sure what they'll say do - but maybe own up to not thinking properly about where you left your laptop. Obviously there's no magic way out of this.

Tell them the truth. Seriously, they might get mad, but more likely they will sympathise with you because in reality, it's not your fault. You had it in your room in what you thought was a safe place. Trust me, I have two younger brothers and I definitely know the feeling.

The worst possible thing you could do is hide it and lie about it. This will only make them madder. Tell them exactly what happened.

Don't you have warranty over the laptop? happened to my bro's laptop..dad still doesn't know yet.
If you do have warranty over it(you should) and it could be fixed then there should be no problem at all, accidents do happen. You're parents will get over it.

yeah i do have warranty ... i think my parents will be more concerned about me actually leaving it on the floor, not the scratch because i've been on a recent quest to show them how much i can take care of my stuff and keep my room clean etc. - especially my mum who keeps telling me 'you'll never get through vce - let alone life-  if you're not organised' - although this doesn't directly fall under 'organisation' - but then again, she refers to dog ears on my books as 'organisation'

but i'm going to go tell them and then will continue this post....

I am not sure if the damage will be covered by your warranty. Screens, however, can be replaced at a computer repair shop. Maybe offer to pay for the repairs? This will show your parents that you are willing to take responsibility when things go awry. Trying to circumvent it will most likely just exacerbate the situation and, if they suss it out that you are twisting the circumstances, will make them lose trust in you. Loss of trust can result in much more than fleeting reactive madness.

Good luck! Do not get too worried about it as I know these repairs can be done.

soo.. that wasn't too bad... i just said it how it is...i guess they could see how upset i was over it and appreciated that - but hearing is one thing and seeing is another - they haven't seen it yet, i was willing to show them , but they just didn't ask so i didn't offer...
... i guess they can only handle so much at a time... but thanks guys for all your advice..i will definitely be putting pocket money aside for this... my little sister (second oldest) is the sweetest, trying to take the blame for me - she was supposed to be looking after her... gotta love family :)

Put it on a place like Mount Everest so your baby sisters won't reach it.

try to put all blame on to your sister and make it seem like it wasn't your fault
they won't get mad at you or the baby sister/s this way

Honesty helps A LOT especially in these situations. Glad to hear your parents were 'ok' with it.
Anyway i dont think this would come under the warranty - unless you can think of something to explain how it got damaged. If you're at fault they wont give fix it under the warranty.
Also some screen types will be more expensive than others to fix.
Does the laptop still turn on? If so can you see the screen, just not the part that is cracked?

my sister was supposed to be babysitting (other sister 2 - ok, she classifies as a toddler not a baby) - shes 14, i'm 16 - they will get mad at her, shes old enough to do her job properly - but she got distracted ... i don't want her to step in for me... shes the younger one - i should be doing that for her...
this was just the buildup of several careless mistakes... plain bad luck

yeah swarley, i'm actually using the laptop... it looks like this - closest thing i could find on google images

http://www.mobiletechies.com.au/images/eu-cracked.png - but slightly less damaged, but i can see the screen behind it
