Hey guys,

I've just got a few questions that some of you can hopefully answer:

1) I just bought a Medentry package in order to prepare for the UMAT and for those of you that also bought this package and completed the 10 trial exams for which they give you a "Medentry percentile" compared to others that completed that exam. How did your estimated "Medentry percentile" compare to your percentile result?

I also wanted to ask about getting into undergraduate Medicine in Australia at every single university that offers udnergraduate medicine.

I'm no genius and my honest estimation of the ATAR I think is reasonable is about 95-96. If I get 95th percentile or above in the UMAT and I do well in the interview, what are my chances of getting in?

If you want to do Undergrad Med in Vic - there's only Monash University. To be eligble/competitive for a spot you'll need around 95%ile to gain an interview spot (this year's results, it's been rising every year), you'll need to do well on the interview and the Median ATAR for Monash MBBS.. well I keep hearing 2 figures - either it's 99.60 or around the 98.00 mark - those are the two figures I keep hearing (yeah, all my friends are med hopefuls..)

IMO easiest entry into MBBS in Australia would be University of Queensland - Achieve a 50/50/50 in sections 1 , 2 , 3, get an ATAR of 99.00 or (97.5 if you do LOTE/Spesh Maths - can be even lower if you do a combinations). There is no interview.

That's the universities I know in detail. I'll leave the other ones to someon else.

If you don't think you can get a high enough ATAR/UMAT - there are some Universities that put much more emphasis on the interview and application form like JCU.
A lot of MBBS Uni's will require high ATAR's.

The 50-50-50 rule is just the minimum requirement that needs to be met just to be CONSIDERED. Of all applicants that are considered, the UMAT cut off is looking at 88%ile+

Thanks for the replies, guys. Is it true that there is a first round offer for MBBS at monash that only takes into account performance in the UMAT and MMI?

Medentry percentiles were inconsistent at best.

Median ATAR for Monash MBBS is somewhere around 99.30.

I think you'll find it's easier to rely on 'expecting' a strong ATAR than UMAT. The UMAT is a lot about luck on the day, no amount of preparation is going to save you if things don't go your way (though it might help keep you calm under pressure..). ATAR is more about putting in the hard yards, there will be definite results if you want it badly enough. Having said that, aim high for both, might as well.

Yup  and this year the aggregate cutof for UMAT for MBBS @ UQ was 180.66

thats around 87%ile with a section 1 score of 66 needed if you got exactly 180.

Medentry percentiles fluctuate because you do them at different times, with different concentration levels and yes, all the crap they feed you about your 'emotional state' effecting your performance is kind of true. Some days, you just CANNOT be bothered doing those 44 questions in S1... my scores (especially S3 which was my weakest by far) went everywhere from mid 60s to the 100th %ile and I ended up getting well above the monash cutoff.

For what you need, i think if you can get the majority (ie 70%+ of exams you do) in the 80+ percentile range you will sail through the UMAT.

On a different note, have you done many of the drills? It's just that you have completed all the practice exams with ~6 months to go!

Anyway do your preparation and believe me, the UMAT is tricky and doesn't necessarily favour those who are atarsmart You will be fine.
