Part 1 and Part 2 of a Tutorial?
« on: January 24, 2012, 05:23:40 pm »

I'm having trouble timetabling and understanding this whole thing..
For example, one of my tutorials has:
Part 1: 02-P1, Thu, 14:00
Part 2: 02-P2, Thu, 14:00
So does this just mean that the 2 parts have a week between them? Like for example, I'll do part one on Thursday the 26th, then part two on Thursday the 2nd? Otherwise I can't figure out why they'd be at the same time.

Thanks :)

Are you sure that's a tute and not a lecture? It's pretty common for lecture, I haven't heard of it for a tute before...

In any case, yep, it's a streamed lecture that has two parts. So, if you pick stream 2 (denoted by the 02-), you must attend both P1 and P2.

For ETX1100, I emailed the faculty a few days back asking about the two-part tutorials. The faculty told me because the tutes are at the same time, some weeks you'll attend P1 and other weeks, you'll attend P2; due to the nature of the subject. For reference, this is the timetable I made through MUTTS. To the bit in bold, that's my understanding of it too.

So it's not a mistake or anything then, this is how they intend it to be? That's how mine looks in MUTTS too. Thanks for the help!

Thats how Monash intended it to be. The point in the part 1 and part 2 lectures are that you will be attending the tutorials in locations on the date prescribed in the column.

If you look at your ETX1100 tutorial part 1, it says room CA_N/N203 which is Caufiled(CA) building(N), room(N203) during weeks 15/03-05/04 and 19/04-24/05. Then, when you look at the part 2 of your ETX tutorial, it says it will be held in CA_K/K104 during weeks 01/03 and 08/03.

Hope that clears it up for you. The same goes for anyone else with part 1/2/3 tutorials/labs which seems to be on at the same time. Check the date and the locations of it and don't turn up to the wrong place when the location changes =P (normally they'll tell you that the location for the following tutorials have been changed but sometimes they don't, so just be sure to read your timetable properly.)

Different classroom. P1 is in a normal tute room; P2 is in a computer lab. Check the dates for P1 and P2 and show up to the right classroom each week.
