Transport?

What's the best way(cheapest) to travel to uni everyday?

Simply getting a yearly pass? it's just that i don't have any concession and i'm an international student so yeah. And I heard so many people saying how myki is slightly cheaper? (Is this true any myki users?)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Have a look through there.

But yeah, myki is pretty much always cheaper. Plus you have a plastic card as opposed to a paper card (which would be susceptible to bending, ripping etc).

Well reading from the application form that was given to me on enrolment day, the eligibility criteria for a Vic public transport student concession card is as follows:

*must be attending a normal course of full time study @ a school/uni that is registered with victorian Dep of Edu as shown in the Vic public transport Approved schools and courses.

So you can look yours up here http://www.metlinkmelbourne.com.au/application/courses/tertiary.php

*A citizen or permanent resident of Aus (special category visa holders excluded)

* if you have a refugee status, studying as a part of an approved exchange program or with an Australian development scholarship your also eligible.

You're not eligible if you're:
*enrolled in postgrad course
*An overseas full fee paying student
*enrolled in a tertiary course less than 10 weeks
*not studying full time.
* enrolled in apprenticeship course/off campus course.

Thanks for that. I've looked everywhere and I can't get any concession. Pretty mad about this coz I pay heaps and heaps of money to the aus gov and this is what i get.

Yeah I know, my friend is an international student and she had to pay so much for uni and all. Besides, I find that the cost of transport literally sucks all your money out of your pockets.

I hate spending money on transport, its really annoying.

So just a question, what do you have to do to  not be an international student?

Get a permanent residency.

People think getting a residency is something like: applying , waiting then getting one. But it's actually so complicated :S If this option was available to me.. I would not be complaining.

So, there's no way I can reduce the transport fees? aww that's depressing!

Zebra, not saying that it's easy, since I'm a permanent resident as well. But that's what u gotta do to get those reduced transport fees.

As noted above, use the online calculator. Also, it might be cheaper just to pay for your trip if you only make a few now and then and not on a regular basis.

You just need to get married to a citizen. Problem solved
It's really not that hard to quantify..., but I believe that being raped once is not as bad as being raped five times, even if the one rape was by a gang of people.

So, why would people get metcards not myki? I don't understand. They are clearly better.

Myki's had a few issues throughout its rollout, including computer glitches and over-charging. I personally still prefer to use the Metcard system, but you just use whatever is cheaper for you. :)
