I've heard that Latrobe have been calling up peeps saying that they can no longer do dentistry..
I'm currently overseas so any call won't come through to me..
Can anyone tell me wtf they are up to..

I actually called Latrobe this morning from where I am and they said that I've been enrolled and everything but now I'm a little worried..

I would assume that you calling them and them telling you're enrolled and everything that you have nothing to worry about.

Ah, OK. Had a quick look on MSO what the fuss was. Basically they seemed to have over-offered, and are trying to get students to defer to next year, enticing them with scholarships and such.

I would say just go, don't defer. It'll be packed either year regardless.

and lol just saying, if you were meant to get the call and never picked up... does that mean they never informed you hence you wouldnt be kicked out anyway? xD

lol thats my situation.. kinda overseas so any call would go to voice mail..
although i highly doubt they would kick me out with my atar but i will call them on monday just to make sure everything is fine.

hmm, although i'm not in dentistry at la trobe (neither did i apply for it) but there's been a lot of buzz about that course, to the point where i think selection is extremely dodgy

1) the issue of biology as a pre-requisite - i still do not understand whether biology is a pre-requisite. it's listed as one in the VTAC guide, my friend called them up and they said biology is defs a pre-requisite and you will not get in unless you do biology, guess what, i know someone who didn't do biology and got in (although has declined to go interstate).

2) this bullshieeeet, and it really is bullshit, the selection officer should resign seriously, how the hell did they over offer, are they stupid? and also, apparently the phone calls are random, some guy on MSO said he received a call whilst someone with a lower ATAR didn't :S

Apparently, the reason why this happenned is that, they purposely over-offered because in order to counter the number of rejections from students going interstate or interstate students who aren't moving there, however, they over-offered TOO MUCH

legally, however, if they offer you a place, it is a contract, so they can't "kick you out" unless you break the terms of the contract (like breaking the MMI silence at Monash), so I guess they will just drastically increase the temptation until they oust enough people out

Friend just posted a status notifying that her enrollment was cancelled, she was 0.1 over the 98.4 though.
That's so dog though, as if they can do that after saying you have been enrolled.

I have no idea, that's what she posted. I asked her about the scholarship thing she hasn't replied yet...
So if all those people take those scholarships does that mean this year it will be harder to get in?
