So if all those people take those scholarships does that mean this year it will be harder to get in?

I reckon, i heard it was something like 30 people who will be getting cut off because there are only about 45 places available... so im thinking.. what about the applicants for 2013? will there only be 15 spots available for then? :s

Bloody poor form. Although I'm sure bio is a pre requisite this year, hence the lower atar although that's due to over offering also. From what I've gathered, some people with the lowest atars are kicked out, like that users friend with 0.1 , but some with a perhaps middle band score get an offer to defer. Rest assured it's highly unlikely they'll leave fifteen spots for the next cohort. to be honest the over offering was slightly justified but the extent was poor ly judged. We've had like five students bail before semester starte last year and we've lost another three t interstate transfer or returning to med...

Also, what the fuck at the scholarship, that's more than what my friend got for academic merit, and she's the only one with a scholarship in my cohort, it's only 2 k a year.

Over-offering is not the problem- I think most medschools do it too. Less people must have dropped out than they anticipated, i'm not sure why though.

@Boredsaint: for peace of mind if you want reassurance, what you should do is ring them and get the name of the person you speak to. Then, if they pull you up later, you can say you spoke to that person and they confirmed your place for this year.

hmm, although i'm not in dentistry at la trobe (neither did i apply for it) but there's been a lot of buzz about that course, to the point where i think selection is extremely dodgy

1) the issue of biology as a pre-requisite - i still do not understand whether biology is a pre-requisite. it's listed as one in the VTAC guide, my friend called them up and they said biology is defs a pre-requisite and you will not get in unless you do biology, guess what, i know someone who didn't do biology and got in (although has declined to go interstate).

Go to your school immediately and enrol in Biology because you will need it if you are doing LaTrobe dentistry. 

You don't need Unit 1/2.  I never did it and enrolled in Bio last minute and it worked out fine.  I dropped it for Physics.  I suggest that you do the same.

Fine then.  Don't drop it.  You won't be doing dentistry at LaTrobe next year...

A lot of the spots for 2013 intake are already gone because they have to offer them to people who they screwed over this year.
This, in combination with the lack of the biology prereq pretty much gives you little to no chance of getting in.

A guy on medstudentonline said that after these phonecalls, the cut-off went up to 99.05, so I think you're pretty safe
