Class Reg update: BIOL 10004 and ECON 10004
posted by 13 MELB on Thursday, February 02 2012
We are aware that a limited number of students have been unable to register into classes for this subject. This has been reported and technical staff are investigating the cause of this problem and appropriate solutions.

To ensure fairness to all students, until a resolution can be implemented, we have closed class registration for this subject. Advice will be provided to students as to when class registration for this subject will reopen, before it is reopened. Please continue to check your emails for further information.

Please Note, as a standard process, this subject has staggered release settings applied. This means that at 10am on Friday 20 February, extra places in all classes will be made available to students for registration.

We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you and appreciate your patience while we try to resolve this problem.

What exactly is the rush

Exactly.
In fact there are hidden benefits in not registering for classes immediately.
Those who complete their registration within 30 seconds after registration opens, are by definition people you dont want to be grouped with.
Therefore if you wait, THEY group themselves with each other, and WE take whats left, secure in the knowledge that we'll be grouped with the COOL and RELAXED people :)

I like the way you think, but i'll sleep better knowing I got in early and managed to get two days off :)

Yes you can. And if it's just lectures you need to change, you don't really have to as no one is stopping you from just turning up to a different lecture.

Why do they have lecture streams? Like for eco, if I go to the eco lecture at 10 on tuesday, they make me come on 10 on thursday as well. Can I turn up to the eco lecture at 10 on tuesday but then also to the one at 11 on thursday instead of 10am?

Summarised perfectly.  One more though that I think would be relevant:

Are you going to get detention/suspension?  No.

And to add: does the uni actually care? No unless a specific stream is too full. But in general, no.

Each stream has its own pace of learning, depending on the lecturer. The lecture that you usually go to might not necessarily be the same pace as the replacement lecture.

You can't use a notebook.  You will need to buy a prac manual from the bookshop for like 25 dollars.  You only need to hand in one prac, the rest are usually assessed in class but there is working space within the prac manual that you will need to use to take notes.

^ That's for biol, in chem you will need one of those books that copies down what you write on a page you save, also found at the bookshop!  I CAN'T REMEMBER WHAT THEY ARE CALLED.  And for physics you use a physics manual thing that stays in the lab for the entirety of the semester.  And for psychology, your labs aren't real labs so you don't do reports.
