Kinda scared! Only taking 3 subjects this semester.. ?
« on: February 01, 2012, 09:58:08 am »

So after completing my study plan, it seems that I am only ELIGIBLE to complete 3 subjects this semester (since all other subjects I have put down require prereqs from either high school or uni, which I am yet to complete).

If you're curious, they are:
Biology of Cells and Organisms
Calculus 1
Chemistry 1

So because of all these prereqs for my selected subjects in my study plan, this makes me only ABLE to take 3 subjects this semester (sorry for kinda repeating myself) and 7 subjects all up this year.

What also doesn't help is that some subjects are only run during certain semesters (e.g. Law in Society ONLY runs in semester 2, which I could've done in semester 1).

This also means that I would have to make up for that lost subject NEXT YEAR (according to my study plan).

So here's my dilemma:

My friends all have told me that I HAVE to take 4 subjects in the semester. They could be wrong. They are idiots. So my question is, am I allowed to do 3 subjects this semester and am I also allowed to make up for that next year by taking that extra subject?

You're not doing a breadth. Do a breadth. Problem solved.

You can do 3 subjects if you want, but you still have to do 24 subjects to finish your degree, so you'll have to make it up at some point (overload or summer semester)

Nah I am doing breadth subjects, its just that the breadth track I'm doing begins with a subject that only runs in semester 2.
For the other breadth 'slots' in the study plan, I've replaced them with Level 2 science subjects (which require prereqs, which is why I can't do them this year.

You speak about 'overloading' but what exactly does that entail?

Overloading is just completing an extra subject in the semester. So 5 subjects instead of 4

So then I'd be able to take an extra subject in second year? To make up for not taking it this year?

You can either take it over summer, or overload and take 5 subjects in a semester but you need to satisfy these requirements;

You're fine, I have friends who only did 3 subjects in Semester 1. Tell your friends they're idiots and they're wrong.

Ahhh... do a breadth in semester 1?

Fill it with something else. I get what you're saying, you've got 4 breadth subjects on a track that starts in semester 2, and the others you've filled with science, but if this is what you want, you'll be there an extra semester completing 1 subject [unless you overload]. I suggest you sacrifice a science for a random breadth if only to make life easier for yourself.

are you thinking of doing linear algebra or chemistry 2? If so, do one of them over the summer semester and you will have completed 8 subjects by the start of semester 1 second year

3 subjects is a full time load unless you can quote a government website that says otherwise

That's because it's the correct impression.

Chromeo33,

What Study Plan did you have in mind, and what are your objectives ?
