Honestly I wouldn't worry about getting the same dress as someone else. There are so many options and there will be many people at one formal, and with extra things like accessories, how you do your hair and make up - if you play it well you're going to look uniquely you (sounds INCREDIBLY douchey but I have no other way to put it). If you find a great dress that you really love and is within your budget even if it's from a conventional place like Bariano, just ensure that you work it well that you're gonna rock it so much harder than any potential outfit twin. :)

Don't want to intrude on the girls thread here but (don't flame me)

+1 xdecay, it shouldn't matter if you end up with the same as someone else, as there is so many different things you can do otherwise now days.

(this feels weird posting this) I will now slowly back away from this thread.

Please don't wear short dresses to your formal. Most girls make that mistake and realize that they will wear the same type of thing to average clubbing events later on.

On a side note, been to five formals in my time, can only remember what one of my dates was wearing.

I think short dresses are fine, so long as they're not TOO short. I guess the length of the dress really depends on how much dancing you're going to be doing - I had the freshman masquerade ball the other night, and because it was mostly a dance party (even though we had a mocktail reception earlier) most people wore dresses that came above the knee. If your dress is too long, you WON'T be able to dance. Although at the MHS formal when I went most people wore long dresses...

a lot of my friends got their dresses from ASOS. Free shipping + sales means you can get something great for under $100.

Let's be honest, Uni Balls will never match the excitement and anticipation which school formals had. People wear short dresses to them because, 1. you get sloshed, 2. it's a glorified clubbing night, and 3. you go clubbing afterwards.

Some people (like myself) are short, and cant really pull off a long, elegant dress, because it makes us look like an oompa loompa in a long dress. Thats why I thought I'd be a bit unconventional (well a year ago, it was- I CLAIM THAT TREND) and pick a asymmetrical dress. It was short at the front and long at the back and various shades of pink LOL

Anywho my point is, the type of dress you pick does depend on your body shape. But I really envy tall people who can look good in long dresses AND cocktail dresses, while I'm stuck with knee-ish length dresses that keep me from looking like a douche.

I love being a dude. I've been wearing the same thing to every event and no one can tell the difference
It's really not that hard to quantify..., but I believe that being raped once is not as bad as being raped five times, even if the one rape was by a gang of people.

I only plussed this because it made me laugh :D  oompa loompa is an exaggeration honey, you're not nearly orange enough. ;) I, for one, know many other people who pull off oompa loompa perrrrfectly.
Happy enough after one hell of a year.

gosh, that made me laugh. Its so true though, but I like bow ties on guys instead of the conventional skinny black tie.

I bought an assymetrical blue dress from Bardot last winter for my formal this year. It looks good, but ultimately its the colour and style that you choose:)

You're a guy, she's a girl?

Oh, I for one, am such a lazy girl that I have bought most of my dresses for parties this year in the summer... Because I'm too lazy to spend valuable time in term looking for dress and getting pissed off when I can't find one I like. :D

I know, I know :P
It's cause I wear shirts/ties so often that if I get a special shirt/special tie for a special occasion, I usually end up wearing it some time before cause it looks so nice, if you get what I mean ;D

Hahaha, dw, getting pissed off isn't only a girl thing, I hate having to match shirts and ties, it's like OMG does this look good or does that look good or OMG idk! D: and then I make up my mind and then I start thinking about what OTHER people think, and then suddenly someone says it doesn't match and then yeah....you can imagine :P

:(
