Hey guys,

Just wondering whether any of you guys will be attending the Expo held next week on the 25th and 26th of April. I got a free ticket and I'm deciding to go on the 25th. Also, for those who have been at the Expo before, I like to hear your opinions on whether it was resourceful or not.

Cheers  :)

If you already know which course you want to do, I don't see much point.

When I went it was just a drop by to grab brochures/booklets/free propaganda then leave to go do other stuff. It's like having all the univeristy's open days all at once, minus a few components (i.e. campus tours). VCAA also have last year's exam papers that were printed in excess to give out. Saves a bit of paper I guess.

That Mental Blank thing was there too methinks. I think I remember making up fake personal details (Inyor Punts, 123 Morelols Avenue, Melbourne 3000 or something) when they gave me a form to fill out. So yeah, be on the watch for bullshit.

If you're interested in interstate universities, there will be representatives there if you have questions/need information and convincing.

Pretty much a marketing fest.

I second to that.  I went last year because I was given a free ticket because I subscribed to the VCE success package.  Basically, they:

  • Have stands up that sell VCE books/study guides/practice exams at a discount.
  • Give out various freebies (such as past VCAA exam papers like Toothpick mentioned and lots and lots of pens)*.
  • Have Victorian and interstate university representatives that give you course information such as brochures and other flyers.  You can also talk to current students of the course you intend to undertake at university.
  • Have tutoring services such as TSFX and TSSM that try to sell their services.
  • Have several lectures (such as current uni students trying to advertise their uni and some random teachers giving you exam hints**).

I thought it was pretty useful even though at that time I knew which course I wanted to do after school.

EDIT: Just wanted to confirm Toothpick's last post - Mental Blank did have a stand and they also did have a lecture last year.

*= I also managed to get a very random Frisbee off Monash University as well.  I got it from one of the students who was representing the Faculty of Engineering.

**= Although I didn't go to any of those lectures since I was in year 11 at that time, I did see a lot fo people walking out half way through those lectures.  Maybe they aren't so good...

Loved the freebies! But I ended up with a very heavy bag (including course guides which I need the 2010 ones of now).
Frisbees, rubbers, rulers, stress testers that don't work, wrist bands, and lots of pens. It was great for that :D

And you also get to ask all different questions that you want to know.
There are also things for the police force and army, etc as well as gap year activity things (if I recall correctly).

You don't have to go on Anzac Day if you don't want to.  You can either go on Friday the 14th or Sunday the 16th.

Don't you mean Friday the 24th and Sunday the 26th?
