My prospects of getting an SS of >25?

Ok basically I want to do Methods this year and get a study score of at least 25, so that I can keep my uni options open. But now I'm wondering whether I should stay in Methods or join Further Maths, and if I can even get 25 in this subject.  :-\
Last year I performed rather badly, largely because I frequently got behind, and then didn't catch up, leading to inconsistent results. For example, I got a B+ on one test (however it was the highest mark I got for a test all year, and one which I put more effort into than others), and then proceeded to get an E on the end of year exam. I'm pretty embarrassed by this mark to be honest, but I don't think it's completely indicative of my skill level: I didn't put any study in (I had been focussing on other subjects, to my detriment evidently) and I needed to review the topics. And I was majorly sleep deprived on that day. :P But all the same, it's an abysmal result to go to year 12 with, and I'm now needing to catch up on some of the  year 11 topics (some I'm fine at, but there are others I really need to revise eg. calculus and logarithmic laws). So, now that I have set myself up pretty badly for this year, can anyone tell me whether you think it's feasible to continue this year, with some of the year 11 topics to catch up on in addition to the year 12 workload?
Thanks. :)

You can easily get a 25 in methods.
For comparison, in unit 1 methods I did no work and had a 70% average. In unit 2 I started taking methods seriously and got a 98% average.
You'd be surprised at how much you can improve when you put in the effort.

Yeah. what he said.. You would be surprised how far a little bit of diligent work will get you! If you can just concentrate and understand the key concepts, you should be able to get 25 pretty comfortably!

Yer I'm in the exact position as you, I'm aiming for a 35-40 in Methods. I reckon you should aim much higher then 25 since it gives you that extra boost to work harder and even if you don't achieve that particular study score of  say over 40+ it will still be good study score.

Try and work ahead of the class, because it gives you that extra edge and also it gives you more revision time since you will be ahead while also be revising because the class is just catching up to you.

Use the internet and ATAR notes to your advantage.. ATAR Notes is a great resource the guys here are willing to help you understand the concepts and will explain/solve any questions which you are having difficulty with.

I recommend you do more research on a topic which you don't understand such as Wikipedia..

and also check out these two websites:

http://patrickjmt.com/ <-- Has a ton of video resources for Maths, helped me a lot
http://www.khanacademy.org/ <-- Also has some a ton of tutorials for Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and much more.

Good luck man, I reckon with hard work as Specialist said you can achieve your goal and possibly beyond if you are willing to put in the hard yards.

Thanks for the advice (and the resources oliverk94), I think I will continue with Methods. To catch up on the 1/2 stuff that I need to revise I'm going to try and rush through it over the next two weeks, from the textbook.

Perhaps a few D+'s and a C can get you a 25+ SS.

Advice: Mathematics is the only subject in school that requires a lot of practice, you have to practice, practice, don't do the shortened questions your teacher provides for you do all of the questions that are within the book. You might be lucky to even pull of a 35+ or a 50 ;). Maths is just the subject that takes practice, practice and practice more also if your maths is weak just do more questions and you will be fine.

Can I afford to rush through the 1/2 revision (which I am weak at) and work more thoroughly on the 3/4 material?

I did nothing the whole year, last year, save for going to a really strict tutor where i did all the work, still failed half the SACS, 'did' practice exams (by did I mean copying the answers off the answer booklet for each exam- for the 10 exams that I did out of the 40 exams I was given,) got 3 out of 40 in my first proper trial exam (exam 1) ended up with a 27.

I was shitting myself, thinking that I wouldnt make the 25 pre-req, you should have seen me when I saw that I had gotten the 27. I went absolutely nuts LOL My GA's were B C C+

Also, I walked into the exam not really knowing my exact values, obviously I fucked up the solving trig equations question in exam 1.

End of story: If you dont be like me, you're set for 30+ Just do all the work set to you etc. and you will be fine!
