for paramedicine..VCE chem is not a prereq. i know, coz my friend gave up on chem in yr 12, but still got into a paramedic course. However, if you still would like to pursue something medicine related, then i do recommend chem, since it is a prereq into courses like biomed or science....not to mention, it will give you good grounding in some essential skills.

However, i would also add: don't think it's the end of the world. You can achieve so much if you put your mind to it! So don't give up on med if you still like the idea of it.

Just do some research into potential degrees and see whether you would need chem. After that, the rest is up to you to decide whether you wanna do it or not :P

Thankyou everyone!!
I've always wanted to do medicine/surgery but it's such a big thing.
I liked paramedics because it's real life and out and about, yet with the 75 required atar, I feel it's a waste of my talents if I wanna get 90++ (don't wanna sound snobby I'm
Just worried I'll be around people who annoy me I don't know I'm so confused lately hahah ><)
I guess I'll just have to look around and see what I can find

Btw I heard VU is the best for paramedics poss. in aus?? Monash peninsula is too far :p

What about nursing? They get paid extremely well and there is virtually always employment.

Aren't they currently about to strike in response to their pay? Unless you're just saying that they're plain greedy, but my impression is that they're not paid well at all for what they do.

I read on MSO that they're paid relatively well!

But I think they're paid better than paramedics anyway.

Anyways, found some statistics, I personally reckon this is good pay!

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/more-news/nurses-strike-action-to-hit-patients/story-fn7x8me2-1226193176931

It's over a pay increase and nurse-to-patient ratios.

Also paul I wouldn't believe everything I read on online salaries info.

And note that the average salary doesnt match up with the average salary for the last 90 days either.

$60k is good pay? I mean it's acceptable but it's not what I'd call good, especially considering how difficult the job is.

Paul, have you recently driven along the highways with billboards or, y'know, turned on a TV? They are on strike. I know nurses local to me are responsible for up to ten patients when they come in the ER; you should see the geriatric wards. They do not get paid enough for what they do.

Not at all. You should be absolutely fine, if you're happy to do paramedicine then do paramedicine.

You don't need med bro. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KLT4O9w2vxY

On a serious note, I think you should really think about where you see yourself in 10 years time. Do you think you'd like being a paramedic despite having other dreams? Perhaps look into a completely different field.
