When you say overseas, where do you intend to work?
Ideally the U.S.A., but from all the research I've done the country is saturated with lawyers and it's much more competitive to get a job there then here. I also wouldn't rule out the U.K., but it'd have to be between those two.
You will struggle to find a job as a lawyer in the US regardless of which university you studied at.
Within Australia, alma mater only really matters when you are choosing between a university that is part of the Go8 and one that isn't.
Here is a list of things which are more important than your uni when applying for a legal job:
- your marks
- your extra-curricular activities
- your co-curricular activities
- your hobbies and interests outside of law
- your work experience
- your physical presentation at the interview
- your charisma and general social skills
