Mariammm, that's right, people generally complain of change in general as opposed to a bad change. If we had all be accustomed to one exam, we'd be complaining if VCAA decides to introduce mid-year exams :P
Please don't VCAA, one English paper is enough :P

I think it's pointless to argue this because if we were to sit here and pick apart VCAA's faults, there are seriously larger faults than the abolishing of mid-year exams. The truth is, people will get used to it, in a few years time they won't even complain about it anymore as the new crop of students come up.

Says the guy who already completed VCE. No pressure for you, buddy.

Well, I think he's got a valid point though. He's finished VCE so he's already got through a lot more academic pressure than people who haven't yet, so I don't think you are right to brush his comments aside like that.

Re: topic

Not sure what I think about the whole new vce system, in the short term I think it will mean less pressure for the students, but the workload certainly needs to be cut down to a reasonable amount so as to reduce pressure in students for the end of year exams. I think the new system is generally not that great of an idea, it means:

* Students won't have as much awareness of the exam process at the end of year, mentally (especially for those who haven't done a vce 3/4 in yr 11
* You have exams mid-year in uni anyway, so with mid-year exams in vce you get practice for the next year

Nisha. No, the issue is, like I've said, people resist change in general, not necessarily bad change. If we were all accustomed to end-of-year exams only, and VCAA decided to introduce mid-year exams, people would start complaining that it's disruptive, forces people to take time away from other subjects to study for mid-year exams and probably many other reasons too.

One of the reasons why people are complaining is because it's different to what they're used to.

@Rohitpi: i'm not pushing his comment aside. Agreed, he has been under alot of pressure in VCE, but in comparison, more pressure would be on those 2013 students who unfortunately under more, as mid-years are gone.

@paulsterio: Yea, I see your point. I think this discussion is bordering on the philosophical.

Exactly, Nisha, that's why I said that this debate was going nowhere, both have their +'s and -'s :)

This is a disaster for people like me who cram like crazy during swotvac... Cramming for an entire year of studies is just plain stressful.. I'm really thankful now for going through VCE with mid-years. Really cut down the stuff that's needed to be crammed for subjects like chem, where unit 3 and 4 hardly had any relevance to each other.

Guess this would somewhat force slackers to pick up their game.
