Living interstate lifestyle

Along with several other people on this forum, I am about to move out away from home to live interstate for study.
I am very curious as to what life is like to live by yourself away from your family for a long period of time for the 1st time.
Is it hard? What do you find most difficult to cope with? Is there anything in particular that I should be prepared to do?
