How and when can you apply to transfer to another university?
« on: February 13, 2012, 03:57:01 pm »
I want to transfer from Swinburne to Monash, and i'm wondering when and how can I apply?
I know the requirements, and Monash told me to apply through VTAC?
I'm confused about it still.

Do you want to attempt a mid-year transfer or an end of year transfer?

For end of year transfers, you simply apply as you did for the Swinburne course - through VTAC. Login to MyInfo (VTAC) during the course selection period and select the Monash University course that you would like to transfer to. This course selection period will generally be around the same time as last year, which was around early December.

Just a note: you will be applying as a non-year 12 applicant.

Sorta off topic, but just curious about transferring courses in the SAME uni. Is it a difficult process with prerequisites and stuff? Or do you simply apply for it and are accepted straight away?

@just.joseph... For the end of the year I will transfer.  Does that mean I will need to register a new account or just keep my student ID from year 12? Do I need to pay any additional fees?

Yes, you will have to register a new VTAC account (as a non-year 12 applicant). I'm not sure about fees but I'm assuming you'll have to repay as it is a new year of operation for VTAC.

Thanks again just.joseph :)
To register into VTAC would be around in the middle of the year? Then course selection period would be around early december? Would the procedure be the same as year 12, where I need to pick out courses and put them in preferences? Or would it be for that one particular course I would want to transfer into?
Also, would I need to inform Swinburne of my decision to transfer?

Thanks so much, and sorry for the load of questions :)!

whitecatdisguised, why do you want to transfer to Monash?
Swinburne is a fine uni...
Are you doing engineering?
With the transfer I heard that you have to get at least 75%+ GPA and that getting this sort of mark is usually harder in uni than in year 12. However, overall that it's easy to transfer...
Would Monash still look at your ATAR score if you're transferring?
Some unis still look at your ATAR score, especially if you're applying to transfer mid-year during first year of uni.

i'm also not sure what the ATAR:GPA weighing is when transferring as unis like to keep this a secret! ;)

I understand Swinburne is a good university in their areas, however I have made a huge mistake in picking my course. I am doing a course that I didn't want to do, and clumsily didn't think about it thoroughly and now I'm obviously paying for the consequences. No, I'm not doing engineering :(

I called Monash and asked them, they said 60% average for reports, and an included pre-selection kit to fill out and interview. Basically the same process as year 12. I want to transfer to Industrial design at Monash. The reason why I didn't get into Monash is because I was below the average cut for the interview, and wasn't considered. But I plan to redo a whole folio that's not relevant to my current course, and more for Monash, whilst trying to get good marks (it will be hard...)

If they did look at the ATAR, it's okay, I have already exceeded their minimum requirements in academics, but unfortunately I'm not a good enough speaker/presenter...

Check if Monash has a page on mid-year transfers
Melbourne does, over here
