According to Assoc. Prof. Chris Wright, the pre-requisites for Med are Physics, Spesh, Chem and Latin :P

Anyways, not that much actually, probably around 60% did Spesh?

This. I think you've run out of valid Monash Med questions lol :P

I'm guesstimating around 90% to 95%

Nah, not that high.

According to Assoc. Prof. Chris Wright, the pre-requisites for Med are Physics, Spesh, Chem and Latin :P

That's true. Me, thushan, funky and paul only got in because of the clause that states that we don't have to do latin and/or physics if our ATAR is a xx.x5 :)

Yeah, then you have others like illuminati or totaled who paid their way in, you can opt out for the exit clause which states that you're full fee if you don't have xx.x5 and did not do Latin

So lucky we are! :P

+1, Don't worry too much if you don't get a xx.x5 ATAR, the additional exit fee is only ~$10,000 per year (in addition to the full-fee payments) :) (cash or suitable barter only)

edit:
If you don't choose either option, there is a very hard test to get in (not advertised much as most ppl fail) based on this book :)

pi also forgot to mention that the test is actually conducted in Latin, so essentially it's only an option for those who actually know Latin but did not do it formally in Year 12, so looks like payment is the only real option :(

What does Latin have to do with medicine?
Most medical terms/vocabs are from Latin, from what I've heard.

Chris Wright's awesome. He's one of the few active faculty members that is pretty much universally respected amongst the students, and he actually listens to us!

What does Latin have to do with medicine?

Like a quarter of the terminology we use has Latin roots. But yes, blatant sarcasm everywhere.

Does anybody have any idea of what percentage of Monash Meds cohort studied specialist maths in vce?

There's a lot of interstate/international students so it's hard to judge. And as others said, does it matter?

It'll make anatomy so much easier to understand =.=

I'm only one week old in terms of uni, but I like him too, he answers questions and he's always willing to have people go into his office and ask him stuff, plus he always replies to emails...etc.

He's also quite passionate about what he teaches and is engaging!

What does Latin have to do with medicine?

That's like asking what your ATAR score has to do with your job seeking capabilities....

To anyone who is actually worried, learning Latin will make minimal difference on your ability to learn terms
