text response help?!?

Hey guys
so I'm looking at practicing my text response essays these holidays,
and I would like to know,
how to best structure one?
I did Lit last year, and they are quite similar, but I just want to know what to do/include for a good piece.
I know you have the question, and you respond to it using text detail..
and I've been told to include a key idea/theme/etc that links to the main question, for each paragraph...

btw I'm doing A Christmas Carol

It might help you to think of it as Passage Analysis in reverse. Instead of analysing a passage in order to form an interpretation you start with an interpretation (partially provided by the prompt, but you are allowed some leeway to put your own spin on it) and 'prove it' by providing an example and analysing how that example relates to your thesis (the example is usually a quotation, which you will have to have memorised). Obviously this is a bit of an oversimplification, and doesn't fully answer your question about strucutre, per se, but it should give you an idea of the philosophical bent of Text Response vs. Passage Analysis. It should also give you some idea of how you can transfer the skills you have developed in Lit to English.
