So when you're a med student
It's like 5days full time yeah?

How do you make money to afford to go to med school? Lol
As well as study?

Yes, it is 5 days a week, often more than 25 scheduled contact hours. There aren't many fees associated with going to university, the course costs are deferred with HECS. You will need to be able to pay for transport/food along with textbooks (which in medicine are plentiful and expensive), but can often be borrowed from the library.

If you want a job, will probably need to be on the weekends or in the evenings, though if you can get away without working and rely on parental support or Centrelink, that will be fine.

There are many people that manage to fit work in, but it'll usually be afternoon/night shifts, or weekends. The hours once you head into hospital are far more than 25 hours or so. My Wednesdays this entire year have been pretty much 12 hour days. The others will usually be around 8 hours or so. Med's practically a full-time job when you get to 4th/5th year in hospital. 3rd year is meant to be too, but hardly anyone takes it that seriously. Basically with hospital, if you just let whoever's in charge of you know that you need to go to work, they'll let you off. Usually it's good to make up the time another day, but some doctors won't really care all too much either way.

Yep, I know a few people who work (I'd say most people don't work in my cohort, but it'd be around a 40-60 split), including one guy (a member on here too) who does 20+ hours on weekends :)
