Not answering your question, but isn't the UNSW cut-off like 99.75 or something? (or is that for a different UNSW course?)

I thought you wanted to do medicine? UNSW and Monash are ranked #4 and #5 respectively in the system for Australian law schools, whilst UNSW is ranked #2 with Monash #6 for business.

They both have pretty high drop-out rates (after first year) though.

Your question doesn't have a simple answer. What do you want from a university?

Prestige of degree v Quality of education. Those are probably the two major factors, as well as convenience, etc.

Quality of the student is more important than the 'prestige'.

Within Australia (and probably overseas as well), the difference isn't substantial. I remember talking to ninwa about this, except I was also considerign USyd, and essentially once you get into a G08 uni in Melb/Syd it doesn't matter. What does matter:

- your GPA
- Internships/Work Experience
- your co-curriculars
- your extra-curriculars
- how well you interview
- how well dressed you are at the interview :P
+ some other things I forgot exactly, but you get the general gist..

Honestly the decision should be an easy one - choose the Uni in the state you live in, unless you have a huge desire to go interstate.

No doubt, but I was referring to the factors involved with the student's themselves making a decision as to which uni to attend.

I do want to do med but I really doubt I will be able to get in (I realise I suck at UMAT and I probably am not smart enough (or hardworking enough) to be a med student. This was just an option I was exploring in the scenario that I DONT get into med.

And I've always wanted to go to America and study there (post grad) but obviously I have to do my undergrad here and was just wondering if the Uni I go to here matters when I apply overseas

There's no need to waste money going interstate if you can get into Monash and it's reasonably easy for you to get to

Also consider whether you want to be a lawyer or not. If you do, remember the admission process is different from state-to-state and you may be required to do extra study if you want to be admitted to practice in Victoria but you did your LLB in NSW

I'm not too sure whether I want to be a lawyer or not, but I believe that the skills I would obtain from doing a law degree, alongside a commerce degree would help me a lot no matter what career path I end up choosing. (I still havn't made up my mind on what I want to be)

Pretty sure it doesn't matter too much.

I'm planning on going to the US after I finish up my degree at Monash (may have an internship lined up there :D).

One of the paths into college in the US is through an employer. Your initial won't matter much (GPA may, but not which uni you attended).

If you're so not sure about what you want to do, have you considered opting for the melbourne model? it's kind of the whole point of it haha.

If you're not sure of what to do, law and medicine are really not things to be jumping into for the hell of it.

Also sam: I will have to hear about this internship next time i see you!

Alright, but if you want to keep your options open, and there's the slightest chance you -will- want to be a lawyer, then you're much better off doing your LLB in the state where you plan to work and live
