I haven't done this exam yet, but would you go as far as saying that this is the hardest chem u3 exam of all? Is it even VCAA  standard? and what's so hard about it, lik are the questions still within the scope of the course?

Hard work pays off. If you don't think so, you're not working hard enough.

It isn't VCAA standard, but it's definitely within the scope of the course. The questions are quite challenging, but they're all do-able with Unit 3 knowledge. Give it a shot, it's good fun.

There's a few questions that required recalling a bit of year 11 knowledge (Q1 MC sort of).

This might spoil the answer:
I'm pretty sure it was just there as a distractor. Through working out, you can narrow it down to double bonds
I guess it's similar to how VCAA and trial exams throw in questions involving ketones and aldehydes.

Yeah, I had no problems doing that question, but if it mentions Alkynes, out of the course :> xD
Got a bit lost on the ninhydrin one.  Wonder whether VCAA would want us to know that... D::

What'd everyone here get on it? I battled my way through and managed a 71/78.

It's come up previous VCAA exams, but they provided context and explain what it is e.g.
VCAA 2003 Exam 1 SA Question 5
Quote from: VCAA 2003
Amino acids are colourless, but the position of an amino acid spot on the strip can be seen by spraying the strip with a solution of ninhydrin, a substance that reacts with amino acids to produce an intense purple colour.
On that VCAA exam, you didn't really need to discuss ninhydrin in your answers though. I can't remember where I had read about it before, I don't think it was in the textbook.

I am not sure how question 4 of the multiple choice was C though. I thought it would be A, can someone explain the reasoning?
