To components if we used a non polar stationary phase with a non polar mobile phase.  Or a polar stationary phase with a polar mobile phase?

If we did that, the mobile phase would adsorb to the stationary phase, wouldn't it? And that wouldn't be of much use, since the mobile phase is meant to push the sample through the column :p
