Well be grateful you don't have to write code by hand in the exam - I had to write maybe 4-5 pages of code in my programming exam last week, by hand.

Was about as much fun as it sounds.

It gets worse when you forget something and have to move everything you've just wrote down a line to fit something in :(.

Thankfully my programming exam only had 1 section devoted to writing code. The other section was more reading focused (find the bugs and correct them/what does the program do? sort of thing). And the other was theory.

So far so good is soft dev. Finished up unit 3 last week and I'm sitting on 96/100 with rank 1, while rank 2 is about 10 marks behind and the rest are in the 60s-70s. My teacher is OK, he knows that most in the class are taking IT as a "5th subject", but he still helps those of us who want a good score.

I agree that not much theory is being taught, but i've been doing majority of my theory work through VCE IT. The exam "post mortem" is great too.
Nice marks! I ended up 89/100. I'm not too worried with those marks, but on the first sac i lost marks just due to being clueless for half of it, I could have easily got at 95+ for that sac; which would've boosted my scores to A+ for Unit 3.
I only discovered VCEIT after the sac, if I knew it was there earlier it would've helped me with my SRS so much more. Ah well, what can you do. I'll just aim for an A+ for Unit 4 and score highly on the exam. All hope isn't lost.

Thanks :) I bet your SACs were harder than mine haha. But yeah good mindset, I'm just going to try and keep my notes up to date using VCEIT. The theory is pretty well explained for the most part.
Hopefully getting A+ in both units and the exam will push into the 40s, but who knows with such a small study group (i think there is only around 1300 students).

My SACs were fairly difficult, and my teacher is a very very hard marker. VCEIT is possibly the best resource ever haha I think it should, three A+s surely would be in the 40s. A lot of people perform terribly in the exam, average was C+ last year.

Wow C+ really! I've looked over it a few times, didn't seem very hard! Well that's promising for us then at least

Yeah it looks fairly easy, however I bet the case study will be ridiculous. It was terrible for the Applications exam last year. I'm sure an A+ is achievable! The cut off is fairly low.

At my school, we've been learning Visual Basic.
I'd think I'm in the top 5 ranks of my 20ish student, 95/100
We have about 10 year 11s and 10 year 12s, all studying SoftDev though.
I think we cover plenty of theory in my class, and I like the fact that the book explains most areas well. Or at least introduces you to the knowledge, even if its all just crap

The exam "post mortem" is great too.

It's great until you read it after you just sat the exam. I'd recommend not reading Kelly's post-mortem until all of your exams are finished.

Correct but it's the exam A+ that really determines how far you can go. I full marked EVERY sac (for both SD and ITA) yet in the exam I scored a low to medium A+, and in the end I scored 41 for both.

My advice to you guys is to sit as many sample papers as you can in proper conditions and mark them harsher than VCAA. SACs don't mean a damn thing as long as you're rank 1, and I learnt it the hard way.

Essentially correct, but it depends on whether your cohort is strong (with regard to the ranks).

Cohort in regards to SD or Year 12?

As in if you're ranked 5 in a strong cohort it isn't necessarily bad to your SS.

Yeah that wouldn't be the best idea! Oh well, SD is my last exam, and the day after my 18th birthday, so I don't think reading the post mortem will be the first thing on my mind  ;D

If the majority of my class are performing badly, does that bring my score down if i'm scoring highly? (sorry for my ignorance)
