Tip 1 - don't memorise essays, it's not a good strategy by any means, why would you want to?

read and re-read and re-read and re-read!

start by memorising each sentence, then paragraph instead of re-reading the entire essay again and again

memorising isn't so bad if you know what ur doing
worked wonders for me in SACs and exams

Remembering the main points and remembering a whole essay are two completely different things though.

I want to memorize as we have been given the topic or in this instance, the passage, and therefore i have written my essay already and think that it would be wise to memorize so i can make sure my SAC is the same essay.  There is no way i can be tripped up on SAC day by another topic or what not so its not a risk as such

Look I wouldn't recommend memorizing it either, but if you really have to, maybe the long and hard way is the only way. Two days is quite a lot of time, so you're probably still safe.

Ok, I understand, what I would do is memorise it in stages

Stage 1 - Memorise the key ideas, so you can write an outline of your essay, so basically this includes the topic sentences and your contention.

Stage 2 - Memorise the important sentences which you will be using as evidence. So this includes quotes.

Stage 3 - Memorise the "impact" sentences, the ones which make your essay sound good.

Stage 4 - Memorise the "filler" - stuff that's not really necessary but just there to add volume and complete the essay.

The benefit of this is that if you don't get up to a particular stage, the ones below will still help you and as long as you have Stage 1 - 2 all down pat, you can probably do Stage 3 and 4 on the spot, it's much better than trying to rote memorise. You also learn more about essay writing this way, by dissecting and decomposing your essay into the 4 types of statements.

So did I! :D

Best tip, write the piece as many times as you can, saying it as you write it.

N.B. Focusing on "memorising" only as that was the point of the topic

You can't just say that just because you got a higher study score than me that it means your studying technique works better than mine, I'm sure I can find a person who got 50 and say they didn't memorise essays, so they can pull the "I didn't memorise any essays and I beat you" line - that is just seriously flawed logic.

Either way there's three sections in English, I think if we were to evaluate the effectiveness of memorising, we should compare individual scores rather than just the study score.
