so, as you read above, i didn't complete my midyear exam
i left out around 5, 4 mark questions
I havent been doing so badly in my SACs (A, A, A+ in motion electronics and materials)
I was aiming for around 38+ as my study score
is it still possible for me to achieve this if I do well in the remaining SACs and exam
and what marks do I need to achieve it?

Do you get anything wrong except those questions?

Losing 4 to 5 marks alone is not the end of the world.  As long as you ace the unit 4 exam!!  Fight on :)

Actually don't understand the title of this thread at all. Does it help to pass the exam? Of course, it's better than failing it ;)

LOL  I think what he/she was trying to say is does the mark that he/she got would help getting a 38 raw?  Or making it lower?  w8...Now I am not making any sense...but you got what I meant :P

So confused by all replies in this thread. All I know is that A+, A+, A+ (lows) get a 39ish, so depending on his mid-year, he may need to demolish or do slightly better (than his mid year) for the end of year exam.

Ok 5, 4 mark questions left out is a lot of marks gone. If you're successful in the other questions, I would say that you're looking at a high B+/A. Looking at the solutions provided, the exam seemed to be no worse than the previous year's exams (note: the 2006 exam was a doozy).

To get 38, I would aim for A/A+ in the SACs for unit 4 and the exam. In 2008 I got an A+ for the first exam, A+ for the SACs and an A for the second exam and only got 39.

I think losing 4 to 5 marks in this yr exam would give you a low A+ to a very high A.  2009 paper was very easy and the cut off for A+ is 86/90.  This year is harder than the 2009 one and it has more explanation questions that can screw students over.

I read it as them not answering 5 x 4 mark questions (totalling to 20 marks lost), 70/90 would give a high B+ to a mid A.

You're lucky that this years exam was quite difficult, due to the large amount of explanation questions.
If you ace the end of year exam (mid A+ or better) then a 38 ss is still possible. Also make sure you get a decent SAC ranking. I don't know how hard the SAC's are in your school, but you don't want people who are likely to bomb out on the exam, beating you in SAC's.

the 2006 exam was a doozy

I have no idea what that word means.

Yep, if someone lost 4-5 marks in both exams, they'd be looking at low to mid 40's as their raw study score.

You're lucky that this years exam was quite difficult, due to the large amount of explanation questions.

Basically what I was saying was that the 2006 exam was one of the hardest VCE physics exam.
