How many sub-topics should you have for your detailed study?
And has anyone started on their script or even finished it?

2012: English Language (39) Further Maths (46) Japanese SL (38) Maths Methods (38) Psychology (44)
ATAR: 97.85

2013: BA/BSc @ Monash
2014-2016: BSc + Diploma of Languages (Japanese) @ Monash

I'm not too sure about the 'optimal' number of sub-topics, but I don't think there is a prescribed quantity per se.

I think my teacher said detailed study goes for seven minutes, so make sure you have enough information to speak for that time and don't go overboard obviously.

I've started my script and have about 1000 ji down. I'm doing convenience stores and it's a generic topic but I'm pretty happy with it. I know others doing more obscure stuff like hospitality and even stem cell research or something, but I wouldn't go there unless you're super keen.

2013-2015: BSc (Neuroscience) @ UoM

Hey Julie
I'm not sure if it would work on your exact topic but a generic structure would be
Introduction, What it is (Definition), History/Development, Some comparison with Australia/World, Benefits, Problems (and solutions to problems), Your Opinion and Future Development
Good Luck!
PS: I had most of my detailed study finished by mid August

from experience I had 3 sub-topics + 1 問題点(もんだいてん)

main topic: 温泉(おんせん)/hot springs

sub-topic 1: the onsen's "beautifying" effects to your appearance
sub-topic 2: the onsen's chemical properties (I talked about 3 chemicals for this)
sub-topic 3: onsen manner (how to get in an onsen, do's and donts etc)
issue: racism with onsen

I also was prepared for general questions like "what is an onsen" "have you ever been to an onsen?" and the origin of the onsen etc

I remember them briefly touching on each sub-topic, they only asked 1 question for one of my sub-topics but it wasn't too bad

good luck!
