LaTrobe Uni- good or bad?

I know this is probably not a great question to ask... but I keep hearing that LaTrobe isn't a 'great' uni BUT it's the only uni with my course if I don't get into Monash.
Thoughts/opinions on whether you have heard if LaTrobe is good or not?

Not the "best", but it's definitely not bad. Depending on the course, you could always start at La Trobe, study hard to maintain a high GPA and then transfer to Monash?
Aspiring doctor. Why? For the same four reasons as everybody else. Chicks, money, power and chicks.

What degree are you planning on doing? I'm assuming it's not law because Deakin also has LLB entry (also VU). I'm guessing undergraduate physiotherapy?

Anyway, in terms of medical fields such as that, alma matar generally doesn't matter as much as Law / Comm. I have quite a few friends there doing Health Sciences (I have no idea why its so popular, probably due to them all wanting to stay together) and they seem to have a fun time. One of them is doing Arts / Law, and while she likes the uni, she hates Law. I HAVE however, heard its good for health science faculty.

While it's not a GO8 uni (google it) this doesn't mean much. All universities vary in their reputation across different fields, and for many specialist health careers La Trobe is one of (or the most) prestiged universities.

Depends how you define great. If you mean by rankings, they're mostly a whole load of bullshit. So, how do you define great? It's still certainly a decent education. There are things that will make a much bigger impact on your experience and uni life than rankings.

It would help us a lot more if you told us what degree you wish to do.

Forget about rankings, they are based on research output of a university and have absolutely no bearing on undergraduate education quality. Engineering isnt my field so ill leave it to the experts. However, one thing I have found about undergraduate university education is that there is little difference in terms of education quality across ALL the unis - and this includes the supposed prestigious duo in Victoria.

I agree sluu001 about your comments regarding undergrad education, but jaydeep would be a postgrad student in a Masters degree.
