Question regarding uni entry requirements

Hey all, I have a question regarding study scores and prerequisites to particular uni courses.

For example, aerospace engineering requires a 25 in English methods and either chem or physics

My question is, will your chance be affected if you get a 30 or 38 in chem or physics but have the same atar above clearly in ?

Because I'm not really enjoying physics at the moment and am contemplating whether or not to take chem.

I'm confident I will reach the prerequisite to make the course.

I could take chem next year but I find subjects like accounting easier so I thought it would be better to  take those subjects as they could improve my atar.

My question in a nutshell is, do universities look at your prerequisite study scores as a pass or fail, or a measurement like the atar itself

Thanks for your help

ATAR itself, but they make sure you pass the pre-reqs. They *may* use your pre-req scores if you are middle-band, but I'm not really sure (Gloamy will have more info on this).

Let's just say for example, the Clearly-In was 92.00 for the year you applied and you got 50 for English, 50 for Methods, 50 for Chemistry but 24 for physics and an ATAR of 95.

Since the pre-requisites say at least 25 in either chemistry or physics, you have satisfied the chemistry pre-requisite and you are above the Clearly-In, then you would still get an offer regardless of that physics study score.

But say you didn't do Methods or chemistry or physics, then even if you get 99.95, you won't get an offer through VTAC.  That's the same for getting 24 in Methods, 24 in chemistry and 24 for physics - you won't get an offer through VTAC even if you achieve higher than the Clearly-In because you haven't satisfied the pre-requisites.

Thanks a lot, that makes sense.

So basically, as long as I pass the prerequisite and the clearly in point, I have a very good chance of getting the course I want?

Yep.  But just take note that the Clearly-In that you see published is the Clearly-In for last year's students so it should only be used as an indication only since most of them change every year.

Sorry, but what's VTAC? People keep mentioning it on this site in passing remarks...is it linked to VCAA?  ???

Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre, it's the organisation that gives you your ATAR and your uni course after you submit your preferences. You'll be using it very soon :)
