SAC Scores vs Ranking in SS?

I am wondering how much ranking adjusts your study score in comparison to SAC scores for a subject, eg if I get very high SAC marks but so do others in my class which means my ranking is around the middle of the class, does this mean my study score will be low (assuming I do well in the exam) or will it be above 40?
Year 12 VCE Studies:
2012: Legal Studies [36]
2013: Physics [38], Maths Methods [40], English [38]
2014: Chemistry [37], Specialist Maths [40]

2014 ATAR: 97.40

2015:
Here we come Mechanical Systems Major.

Depends. If your whole year level does well in the exam, your SAC marks will be advantaged. If your year level doesn't do so well on average in the exam, then your SAC scores will suffer.
