Strong conclusions?

Especially for context, how do you give your writing direction, and sum everything up powerfully?

Are you writing a straight expository essay?

not 100% sure at the moment, i did one the other day, although opening with a quote, and i referred back to that quote in the conclusion to try and round it off, however my teacher said a new quote would have been better?

i often do a hybrid with an imaginative/anecdotal opening...and refer back to the opening.

Personally I always fancy a really succinct conclusion. I do this in Politics, Media, Creating & Presenting, text response, language analysis and almost every formal essay I write otherwise. Usually about 4 sentences (occasionally more), just to quickly reaffirm my contention and a bit of loose sentimentality and then tie it up with a final sentence. And I almost always get a comment saying 'short conclusion - good' or something along those lines.

yeah this is what i tend to do, short and sweet... i just feel like it doesn't do an essay justice :p

Just sum up your arguments and reassure the reader what your main contention/argument was. Don't add anymore evidence and make sure it is crystal clear.
