Howdy all

So I have a text response essay to do for OTW
And I gotta get back into the gist of writing a text response

Question is:
How does Kazan convey ideas of good and evil in OTW?

So I understand I need to take into account characters/themes/filmic elements etc

So at the moment my 3 big ideas are
Kazan depicts an idealistic good through the values held by Father Barry and Edie.

Through the character of Terry Malloy, Kazan illustrates the possible change from evil to good.

And lastly,
The mobsters and their control of the lives of the longshoremen is regarded by Kazan as an element of evil.

So are they good ideas? And how would you tie in the film
Aspects?

Yeah I was trying to work out how to add that in
We've only started last week

So could I add in to the paragraph about Edie and father Doyle how they are often under lighting, and contrast to many around them?

Whereas for Johnny Friendly + gang they are often shadowed?

Yes, definitely. The music as well adds to the image of 'evil' with Johnny and the gang. Also, Edies dress style also adds to her being 'pure and good'

But yeah, you seem to be on the right track.

Okay so considering the sort of question it is (where it asks for answers and not an opinion) how would you write the topic sentences?

Something like
through characterisation and filmic elements Kazan highlights what is 'good' in the film

?
