Would probably have to say to not do Spech having not done a 1&2 equivalent. A lot of basic concepts were learnt that year and unless you are willing to put in the hard work over the holidays, it isnt really worth doing.

However, if you want to do it for the pride of doing spech (like me) then go for it :P but dont do it because of the massive scaling

I disagree. The concepts in Spec are fine if you haven't seen them before, such as vectors and complex numbers, IF you have a natural liking towards maths. It's all about putting in the work. I do agree with BoredSaint in telling you not to do it for massive scaling unless you are actually good at maths.

On this note, the spesh course pretty much covers the basics of topics such as vectors and complex numbers all over again since there is technically no Unit 1 & 2 Specialist Maths. You just go through it a little bit faster since most students will have already done it (assuming your school offers General Maths Advanced). If you enjoy maths then go for it!

Must be different at all schools because I remember at my school, it was compulsory to do GMA in order to do spech because all the topics done in GMA were set as holiday homework for spech.. SO we didnt really cover the basics of those topics

If you think you can get B+'s - A's on the end of year exams, then yeah I'd say do it. Just make sure you can tolerate studying for it (i.e. you have to enjoy maths to a certain degree) and make sure you understand that even with the scaling, you need to be quite good at Maths to utilize it.
