Marks of the essays on the VCAA exam reports?

Hey. I was wondering what the marks are like for the 'high-range response' (what VCAA says on their reports) essays on the VCAA Assessment reports for both English and ESL? I heard that they never put essays that achieved the score of 10/10 as they think that people would copy and write essays just like them. I was thinking 8-9/10 but I'm not sure.

I remember a thread a while ago, some respectable member (EZ, Nina maybe) said they're generally always 8s as to not discourage people to aim for a high scoring response. Makes sense, if I read one of EZ's essays at the start of the year I probs would've just given up.

Ah yeah that makes sense. I read some essays on the English Context Guide book and compared to the ones on the VCAA reports the essays on the guide book are crazy and I just thought surely VCAA essays aren't 10/10

Nah not a chance are they 10/10. 10/10 is anything by EZ on the English Guide(something something) thread.

The assessment report essays are more like an 8 usually - in fact in my own marking I would give most of them an 8/10, maybe a 7 in some cases.

Where would they lose marks EZ? Is it due to their ideas?

From memory, a combination of ideas and of generally not being that well-written.

One of the teachers at my school said that she would give the "A Farewell to Arms" essay on the 2010 assessment report a 10/10.

I'd say there are 10/10 moments, but the whole essay is oddly organised and hard to follow and probably gets an 8/10 as a result, maybe a 9/10 at best.

That's exactly what I thought, glad I'm not the only one.  :)

Does this apply to the context pieces? Are the examples of those in the assessors reports usually considered an 8 or 9/10 also?
2012 ATAR: 96.50

I'd say Lit ones are usually like a 17/20, although it's been a while since I've read them.  Definitely not 20/20 though.

Yes.
