Importance of using quotes

Are quotes important in an expository context essay on a film (Skin) ? i.e are they essential for a high scoring response?
I think its possible to write a high range essay with minimal to no quoting from the film, but instead use quotes from other sources, but would just like to hear what you guys think.

Thanks

Quotes can show that you understand and studied the text. But this ain't text response. I just watched Skin. Worst movie I've ever seen. I don't plan to even bring it up in my next SAC. The only thing I found amusing was when Sandra sincerely tells the receptionist "You have a nice face." This pisses off the receptionist ("No I don't. I'm fat") Why does the receptionist think this?

Quotes are less important in expository writing. However for high marks you will have to have some textual evidence, which unfortunately may require quotations, given the style you're writing in. It's more important as to how you address the prompt and explores the ideas in the film. Subtly adding textual evidence like personas or dialogue is also a great way to show your knowledge of the text/film.
