"Monash University Scholarships and Vice-Chancellor's Access Monash Scholar's Program

The MBBS will offer some additional interviews in January to highly ranked applicants based on UMAT and eligibility for the following:

•  Monash Scholarship for Exceptional Achievement (ATAR eligibility 99.95)
•  Monash Scholarship for Outstanding Achievement (ATAR eligibility 99.90)
•  Monash Scholarship for Excellence (ATAR eligibility 98.00)
•  Vice-Chancellor’s Access Monash Scholar’s Program (ATAR 90 or above - interviews offered to highly ranked applicants)."

just need an ATAR of 98? 3 spots available :O
So second round interviews are back???

It appears to me that this is a pseudo second round, with "scholarship applicants" defined as an ATAR of 98.00 above, with only very limited spots available between 98.00 and 99.85.
Also it seems that getting 99.90 will get monash to give you an interview! Can anyone shed further light / different interpretation?

I'm not sure how Monash will do this.

It is true that if you get 98+ ATAR and didn't originally make the UMAT cutoff, you do have a chance of getting an interview. I'm not sure whether you are guaranteed an interview though - I don't think that's true.

Monash may use the 98+ ATAR as simply a floor, in that those who get a 98+ ATAR will be re-ranked purely on UMAT (so a person with 99.95 and a person with 98.00 with the same UMAT score will be equal in the rank list) or they may use an ATAR/UMAT combination to rank such applicants. Not sure at this stage.

Most likely it won't be a round, but they'll select a few from each category. I'd be very very surprised if someone with 98.xx ATAR would get an interview though this, most likely 99.85+ tbh, with a competitive UMAT.

I don't understand why Monash can't just offer interviews AFTER the ATAR has been released?

I'm in favour of all unis using ATAR and UMAT (except JCU - which is weird) to give interviews. It just seems fairer to me.

Yeah, it is fairer, and on top of that, it eliminates this sort of confusion, why do they even have FIVE different categories.

They only need to give out interviews once, and have everyone under the one category - based on UMAT + ATAR.

ATARs are released in mid-December. I presume that's too late for them to firstly work out WHO gets interviews, and then organise interviews, and then determine admissions - in the space of 1 month.
