Hey guys,

I need some help in deciding which text I should use for the text response Part B of the English exam paper 2012.

For my Interpreter of Maladies Sac I got 25/30 and for my Twelve Angry Men Sac I got 47/50 (this was the most recent)

Ive heard a lot of people do 12 Angry Men, so some say Interpreter Of Maladies is the better option.

Also wondering what your predictions are for the text response prompts of both Twelve Angry Men && The Interpreter.

I dont want to study both as I have a lot to memorise and get through.
Focusing one text in detail is better.

Thanks a lot :)

Regarding the book-choice.
I'm choosing Interpreter of Maladies over my other book, because I simply like it more to write about an anthology and the common themes in the stories. Additionally there won't be any prompts about a specific character.

If you're going to pick one then pick the one you enjoy most. Personally I love Twelve Angry Men so I could read it every day if I wanted to, but if I chose Year of Wonders I probably wouldn't be bothered to read it again. Just do the one you like most so you'll be more motivated and it's more enjoyable to write on.

12 Angry men has been on the VCAA list for quite awhile (or so I'm told....) so the prompt will be on the difficult side. Not sure about Interpreter of Maladies though.

I don't do either of them so I can't talk about prompts but do what you enjoy and understand. Personally, I am doing Cosi because I absolutely love it and I understand it a lot better than On the Waterfront (even though my waterfront marks were better). Don't choose a text response to study based on the notion that 'the prompt will be easier' or 'more people do this so I will do that) because the prompts are meant to be challenging and there are so many people doing the exam so they are going to read a whole heap of essays on one topic, regardless of what you do (although that technique is useful for SACs, I must say) so, in short, go with what you are most passionate about!  8)

Oh okay, thanks guys :)

Arr, Im still really confused on which one to do.

Theres always one character based question and one broad one.
However, recently in 12 angry men, they've been mostly character based and nothing on the legal system and its effectiveness and juries etc.

Anyway, I think The interpreter of maladies is simple to understand, not as much confusion - In contrast with the juror numbers in 12 angry men). However I have a vague memory of it,  While with 12 angry men- It was the most recent one. Ive done more preparation for it.

I still dont know :(
12 Angry Men- Complications, Character based questions (which I hate),  Refers to legal system && McCarthy era which I understand (I do legal studies etc).  There hasnt been a question regarding the legal system so most likely there will be one for the exam..

Interpreter- Easy to understand, requires more preparation. Easy to mend essays to any prompt

Im so indecisive and simply cant choose. My teacher says prepare for both but I dont really want to.

Which one should I do?

Interpreter is best, who wants to write about angry people?

Hey guys,
Ahah thanks for helping me choose :P
Ive decided to go with 12 Angry Men because my teacher marked my essay 10/10 in comparison to interpreter which got a 9/10.

Thanks again
