Chemistry Exam Revision
« on: October 08, 2012, 07:35:52 pm »

Hi guys
I've been trying to get stuff together for chemistry but not really getting anywhere except becoming really overwhelmed and scared.
Does anyone have tips on where to start?
Should I make notes? Do textbook questions? Checkpoints? Neap book? Straight into trial exams?
I'm panicking because did the STAV 2012 trial exam and ended up getting 44%.
Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

I suggest you do a couple of trial exams first, just to get a feel for it. Next, analyse your mistakes thoroughly. Make a list of things you need to revise. Only you feel like you have gone over everything, get back to doing trial exams and checkpoints asap. Repeat process.
2011 : Electrotechnology 40

2012 Aim : English 35, Methods 40+, Chemistry 40, Physics 45+, Specialist 30, Punjabi 35+

Atar Aim : 90+

Quoting - The act of repeating erroneously the words of another.

I've attempted trial exams but struggling with it.
Can't even work out what my mistakes are.
So confused :(

Start by categorizing the questions you get wrong. If fuel cells is something you keep stuffing up on, note it down.
Also, make sure you have proper solutions with you. If you don't understand what the solution is saying, i suggest you go back over the theory in your book/notes.

It's going to be a long process, but if you break it down into bits, i am sure you can do it :)
Currently, i am having the same problem with specialist. This plan seems to be working thus far.

Btw, i know how de-moralizing trials can be at the start. Don't feel intimidated though. Do sections or just pick out questions from anywhere and work towards getting your list completed.

I will try :)
Going to go over theory again then re-attempt trials.
Is it worth making my own notes?

Is it worth making my own notes?

I made my notes after each topic..probably not a good idea to start making notes now but make notes for the things you're really struggling with :)

i've done that too but looking back on them it seems like it should be more condensed so its easier for me to understand and remember. i'm getting lecture notes tomorrow morning so will make my own notes during double free period

At this stage, no.
What i do suggest you do is write answers (proper and concise) to a few definitions and concepts so you can nail the explain questions.

eg. Explain yadda yadda using Le-Chatelier's principle.
Explain why the rate of reaction increases using Collision theory.
What are the advantages of renewable energy?

If you make your own notes now, you won't have sufficient time for trials
Do trials :)
About notes, A+ and TSFX are pretty good. You can dowload some from AN as well

it's more the wording in questions that messes me up
the wording throws me off and then i start using wrong numbers and mess up the whole question

If you're looking for notes, these are all you need, go over them, try to understand the concepts, then go do trials, remember to go over the solutions in detail before moving on.

Now its very CLOSE to the exam. You need to do trials instead
Doing prac exam will help you to revise and study areas you aren't good at
