Media:
SACS: High A+
SAT/Folio: 34/35
Exam: I'm aiming/hoping to only lose 1 or 2 marks but for this scenario let's say 120/130
45-48, depending on that exam score.

Chinese SLA
GA 1: Low A+  GA 2: Low A+  GA 3: Low A+  --> 35 [could be wrong]

Nah man, defs not right - three A+'s no matter how low, mean that you're in the top 10% of the cohort, so even if you were the bottom in that 10% you'd be looking at a 38. So for three LOW A+'s, I'd say 38 - 40.

What is required for a 40? In terms of marks [English]
For a 40 you'd be aiming for an 8, 8 and a 9, and hoping that an amount equivalent to your rank also get an A+ in the exam.

Hmm, again, 50/60 (which is what an 8, 8, 9 is) with (I'm assuming) high A+'s in SACs will net far above a 40. Remember that a 40 is really three low-mid A+'s. I managed to get 42 with a 45/60 exam mark (9, 8.5, 5) but with very high SACs.
When you say 'high sacs' do you mean in comparison to your cohort or to the state? Thanks. X

I mean post-moderation, so yeah, in comparison to the state, so if your school tends to do well in English, bump up your grades a little, if your school tends to not do so well, kick it down a little.

English:
Average in an average cohort SAC's.
Exam: 44/60
Are you sure your cohort is actually 'average'? It'd be miraculous for an avg/avg person to get 44. But with that I'd say around 33 -> C+, C+, A
Accounting:
Rank 1 in SAC's, 95%+ average, weak cohort though.
Exam 1: High A
Exam 2: A+
38-42
Physics:
Average in a decent cohort.
Exam 1: C
Exam 2: A
Probs around 32, assuming a B scaled.
Methods:
Just above average in a mediocre cohort.
Exam 1 : 34/40
Exam 2 : 66/80
Is your definition of average correct? If you double A+ the Methods exam and you're average in a mediocre cohort...
Anywazzle, I'm just going to assume your definition is wrong by the one and say you'd get a 40. If average in a mediocre cohort is correct then probably like 36.

Spesh:
Above average in a class of 10. Cohort is above average.
Exam 1: 30/40
Exam 2: 60/80
'Bout a 32.

would someone be kind enough to give a prediction for my brother in specialist please,

sacs: ranked somewhere between first and fifth at a select entry school, strong cohort

exam 1: low a+

exam 2: mid a+
I think perhaps 43.

ESL: 183/200 SACs at a medium-high cohort, 14/90 students scored a 40+ last year, 50-54/60 for the exam
Again I have no clue what the ESL graded distributions mean but if it's anything like mainstream English 43+
Methods: 81/100 SACs in a very strong cohort, will scale to around 95-99 (friends scaled from 80 to 98 last year) mid-low A+ for exam 2, high A+ exam 1
45 I think.
Chemistry: 71/75 mid year, about medium/high sacs in strong cohort. mid/high A+ exam 2
46+ I think.
Spesh: 74/100 SACs in a pretty strong cohort I'd assume.. with low/mid A's in both exams?
40-43
Thank you in advance for doing this :)
Welcome =]

just wondering, doesnt this seem a bit too high?

Psychology
GA 1: 152/180 GA 2: 190/200 GA 3: 162/180  --> 46
Yes, I would say 42

Could you please predict these for some of my friends:

Psychology
GA1: 163/180  GA2: 190/200 (scaled)  GA3: 163/180
GA1: 158/180  GA2: 200/200 (scaled)  GA3: 168/180
43
44

thanks!
SB is on the money for all three. I dunno wtf I was thinking when I said 46?! :S Thanks heaps for pointing that out. If anyone sees a mistake please feel free to point it out as above!
(Also on the Media prediction, ceebs quoting)

Felicity -> He means in relation to the state. His scaled SAC scores were very high because his cohort did very well.
Also -> I'm going on a bit of a hiatus and I'm hoping to be inactive so score predictions on my behalf will be minimal until after the 7th of November, when I will clean up this thread and sort out any predictions that are left over.
+1 SB.

Ah, if Brenden's gonna be gone, I'll be happy to try my hand at predicting some study scores whilst he's away :P

Damn my weak cohort then. >.<

Anyways, yeah - my scaled SAC scores were really good (97/100 for U3 and 100/100 for U4) in English because my cohort did really, really well, that's why I was able to get a 42 with an exam score of just 45/60 (or 22.5/30). I'd say that yeah, being a strong cohort probably does advantage you a little, but remember that being in a weak cohort isn't as bad as you may think because the benefit is that you're likely to be ranked higher - so it kinda does balance it out a little.

Well I mainly use your method for predicting all study scores, so in a way you've predicted all my predictions anyway. Pretty accurate little system by the way, very nice job.

Awesome! See I'm in the top 5% of a weak cohort and my scores range from best (9, 9, 8) and worst (8, 7, 7) so I'm not too sure where that leaves me. Thanks for your help (and Brenden as well)

Thank you Nisha :) And yeah thanks SB, you've been taking a lot of the work!
Felicity -> I'm pretty sure you're up there in your cohort? If so, don't stress about it too much.

Ah, if Brenden's gonna be gone, I'll be happy to try my hand at predicting some study scores whilst he's away :P
Cheers Paul :D

Licity -> Based on last post, do your best and should net 40+ pretty swell.

As long as your back by the time most exams are done! I'm assuming this topic will go crazy with people changing their expectations after they have actually done the exams. I will be overrun haha.

Well I mainly use your method for predicting all study scores, so in a way you've predicted all my predictions anyway. Pretty accurate little system by the way, very nice job.

Thanks man! You kinda get used to it after a while though, like, I now know the common combos off by heart, like three low A+'s...etc.

But yeah, my system is basically just a simplified way of looking at a normal distribution, so in reality, it's pretty much a rough, but adjusted method :P

Awesome! See I'm in the top 5% of a weak cohort and my scores range from best (9, 9, 8) and worst (8, 7, 7) so I'm not too sure where that leaves me. Thanks for your help (and Brenden as well)

How weak is weak though? Let me do some research :P

Oh wow, you go to Mater Christi? :P I know a couple of mates there, but anyways, umm, this is the stats for your school:

Quote
Mater Christi College, Belgrave (6 total)
   50:   0; 49:   0; 48:   0; 47:   0; 46:   0; 45:   0; 44:   1; 43:   2; 42:   1; 41:   0; 40:   2

So you can probably see that it's not THAT weak of a cohort, there was a 44, 43, 42, 40 last year, with a total of 6 over 40s in English, so it's a pretty decent cohort, I'd probably place it in the "average" rather than "weak" category.

So yeah, if you're in the top 5% of this cohort, you should be able to crack around a 40 study score if you shell out an 8, 8, 7 (23/30), but yeah, if you do better, then you might even be able to crack a 42 - 43
