Quick question, I've just been told that "how" questions do not invite you to challenge the topic.  Ex, how is family loyalty prevalent in the film?

What about discuss questions? Are you allowed to challenge the topic? Such as, Terry's redemption lies in his willingness to sacrifice personal security. Discuss.

It would be awkward to challenge a how question.

Discuss, challenge away!

"How is family loyalty prevalent in the film?"

You can have 1 paragraph saying "family loyalty isn't prevalent in the film", and so long as you provide evidence to support that assertion (could be tough?) then imo that's a good paragraph that may even differentiate you from other students.
