Hi guys,

I find that time is the one thing that constrains me for the English exam and I hate it!
Anyway, i know that the technique of doing LA first, right after reading time will be time efficient, but does anyone else have anymore tips?
I'm taking 1 hour and 20ish minutes to write LA!!!!!!!!! :(
Does anyone else have any tricks!?
I hate how we can't highlight in reading time too. :(

I love English, and I'm pushing myself to get an LA done in 1 hour 20 mins, so I know whats thats like.
FOCUS ON ARGUMENTS rather than techniques, or if you have to integrate them;"The audience is included with the author suggests that...." instead of saying "by using inclusive language the author proposes to his audience..."

I do my LA last... It is not a recommend approach but in trials I do my text response and context in 50 mins and use the leftover time on my LA.

yeah, english is my favourite too! Over the last few LAs i've done, I have taken that approach.
I think i just go overboard with colour coding the whole written piece HAHAHA :(

Keep it simple. 99% of the time I write about the language techniques. Just make sure you link the techniques back to the argument e.g.
What effect does it have on readers?
Analyse the effect of a technique in relation to the issue. Statistics may not always have the primary effect of making the writer look informed, they may instead highlight the magnitude or pettiness of something. Don’t just say the appeal to fear brings concern. Concern for what? Relate it to the issue e.g. the inclusive term creates a sense of responsibility for readers, particularly those who do not wish to see others in harm’s way, to take action towards the 'issue of...'

I'm a bit confused as to why you would spend 1 hr and 20 mins on language analysis? Since all sections of the English exam are weighted equally, wouldn't it be more effective to divide the three hours equally also?

Ideally I aim for one hour for each, but since LA is the first piece i do, I tend to go overtime because I can't complete and mention everything I would like to in one hour :(

I'm slow, and it takes me longer to analyse something I haven't seen before.

Fair enough, each to their own. I suppose what ever strategy works best for you?
