Just a general question, do any of you guys have any particular structures you tend to follow...helps me to have one in hand so I can get myself going. I know some like to mention their main ideas but I find it difficult to mention four points succinctly enough. any thoughts? thanks in advance

Ok most of my essays start like this

Interesting quote that introduces text along with author and major theme/s in relation to question
Then yeah I'll outline my general ideas (3-4 points, without going into detail) what I want to talk about ( i.e this is evident in such and such....however contrasted by....further, family plays a large role in influencing so&so)
-so I don't give away my points/names of characters, it's like a taste test for the reader,,. Haha...or like a film trailer... Like for that family point that is all I'd say. It outlines my point without giving away the story ;)

It kinda sets up the writing in my head for me
And it works for me for most essays

I hope that kinda helps

  • Strong first sentence (I never use a quote)
  • Clearly explain the crux of your argument, broken down into paragraphs
  • Maintain specificity to the text, don't waffle on
  • Short, sweet, to the point and clear
