Text Response: How'd you go, what'd you think?
« on: November 01, 2012, 11:02:18 am »
In continuing on from last year's tradition once again... (here), how did you find Section A of the exam?

I'm super interested in the Year of Wonders prompts this time around - if someone can post them up I'd be grateful. Mainly because this was what we got last year so I was wondering if you guys got anything similar.

So, tell us - how'd you go on the prompt you picked?

So happy with the I&B, Interpreter of Maladies & Old Man topics!!! The article is about reading and books but I haven't seen it yet!

Extremely doable and accessible topics, you should all do well :)

Being a new book, definitely thought Cat's Eye would be easier

Thankfully I knew enough about the paintings to do the first prompt. However it was very difficult to structure. Ran out of time as well on this one but hopefully I've done enough

OTW prompts were unconventional in my opinion. You wouldn't expect these to come up i felt, but i still think i  did well.

Years of Wonders prompts were...
i) 'In the face of the plague, the character's beliefs disintegrate.' Discuss.
ii) 'The ignorance of the villagers is more powerful than Anna's growing knowledge.' Discuss.

Year of Wonders prompts were good, except the second was a little confusing so i stuck with the first.

I chose Dear America for my Text Response and the prompt i chose was:

'The reader cannot help feeling that the soldiers are victims of war.' Discuss.

Quite simple and easy to interpret/break down, and was one of my longest pieces. Hopeful for a good result

Spent too much time on Language Analysis but still wrote 5 pages
Got my context done, 5 pages as well
Didn't finish my text response for Henry IV Part 1, I had two sentances left for my 3rd body paragraph
Was so annoyed :(

Wondering still I can get a 25 - 30

The prompts for Twelve Angry Men were quite approachable, which was a nice surprise. I had been preparing for topics specifically related to setting so it was a shame I didn't get to incorporate as much of my knowledge of that as I would have liked, but very happy overall with what we were given!

Yep I'd agree with that. Prompt 1 was very open and accessible to all students, low-high tier. I think prompt two was a little more subtle for 12AM and will have more of the higher level students attempting a response. Did anyone else write on prompt 2?

Agreed! Both were friendly and allowed plenty of discussion, but I ended up selecting the second prompt as I had a feeling most students would go for the first. Did you choose prompt 2 also?
