Btw, does anybody know if ADAMS is part of the course?

Yeah we just need to know that it is one of WADAs roles - to know the whereabouts of athletes

Hey guys :)
I did the VCAA 2011 exam a couple of days ago and I just wanted to see how hard or easy you thought the exam was? Thanks

Did it this morning, so fresh in my mind. I thought it was a little easier than the 2010 exam, but had some interesting questions to say the least. Like 7 marks comparing pedometers, accelerometers and recall? That just seems to me like the were stuck for questions to ask :P
But overall, I think I lost some marks on comparing and contrasting IV vs oral hydration and the last question. Also, a few of my explanations were poorly worded such as the interplay question, the stupid question above and some of the smaller ones, so marks would've been lost there.

How did you find it?

I always have trouble remembering Chronic adaptations - hopefully the VCAA don't focus on this area a lot :/

That 7 mark question about the pedometers, accelerometers and recall i thought was a really easy 7 marks.
Overall I thought it was pretty good, just got a bit stumped about how to word some of the answers to the last couple of questions on LIP.
I only lost 6 marks but i wanted to see how easy or hard my teacher was marking, even though he did mark with the answers

How did you go overall?

What do you exactly have trouble with? you can usually remember the same acute and chronic adapatations
You really just need to know 2 or 3 for each muscular (aerobic and anaerobic), respiratory (only aerobic) and cardiovascular (aerobic and anaerobic)

That's true, I just need to be more careful with my explanations in those longer marked questions

Overall I thought it was pretty good, just got a bit stumped about how to word some of the answers to the last couple of questions on LIP.

Yeah my wording for the last question was probably a bit off. I said had the same points as the assesment report but I'm just not sure about how I strung it together. What is your teachers stance on dot points? Do they think they are acceptable?

And overall, I was 7 marks off. This was after going through and marking, then deducting I think 2 to account for what the assessors may or may not have paid.

That's right. Just think about what changes at the onset of exercise, and how your body could adapt to make this process / performance more efficient.

My teacher says to use dot points, that they make sure that you are being as exact as possible and arent writing too much.
I tried this though but it didn't work, I jsut ended up writing whole sentences anyway

Oh okay, well that's good then.

So I have a question. How would you describe the benefits of a beach/pool session for recovery? Some of the books are somewhat contradictory, and a classmate and I were discussing it earlier. Let's say you were asked, for 4 marks "What are the benefits to recovery for a football player completing a beach session post exercise?"

Submersion of the body in water causes a pressure differential that conceives a compressive force. This force, like compression garments, helps increase venous return and accelerate removal of metabolic wastes. Beach sessions amplify this effect because of the greater density of salt water compared to pool water.
Beach sessions can also be a form of cryotherapy, decreasing blood flow to haemorrhaged tissue, reducing blood loss and oedema. These types of sessions can also be a valuable method of team bonding.

Well usually teams will use such sessions with cold water, not hot.
The benefits include - the hydrostatic pressure that is formed because of the upward and downward force on the body, this then allows for an increase in blood circulation around the body which means wastes can be removed and nutrients and oxygen to the muscles.
Also if done with strecthing whilst in the water can help to reduce the impact of DOMS and swelling to areas

Thats all i can remember at the moment hope that helps!!  :P

Nobby beat me to it  :P :P
