Would love to take a look at some of the passages (:

Also, congratulations on completing the best subject available in the VCE!

^Hamlet passages were terribad apparently (no soliloquies, and the final passage was Ophelia's death) - that's all I know so far.

That's a decent portion of the state who would have done it tough then, you'd think.

Hamlet

Passage 1 Act 2, scene 2  Hamlet and Polonius ‘Words, words, words’ scene

Passage 2 Act 3 scene 2  prior to ‘The Mousetrap’ ‘Give me the man that is not passion’s slave

Passage 3 CSE exam  Act 4 scene 7 ‘Ophelia’s drowned’

Emma

Passage 1  CSE exam John Knightley and Elton in love with Emma

Passage 2  Churchill and foppery haircut in London

Passage 3  Right after insufferable vanity epiphany chapter 48 Emma’s ruminations on Knightley

---

From my old Lit teacher.  Those Hamlet passages look deplorable.

The Hamlet passages were quite difficult :( I struggled a bit! My scanner doesn't work but I can take photos and put them up when I get home!

That would certainly do for now! Thank you.

Could you please tell us what the poems were for Gwen Harwood?

Iris, Mother Who Gave me Life and Spelling Price. Spelling Prize had the first two (or first few anyway) stanzas omitted.
Mansfield was A Dill Pickle, Daughters of the Late Colonel and Frau Fischer.
(My scanner doesn't work either though unfortunately.)

That's a pretty awesome combination, how did you find it?

I was pretty happy - I was expecting something that would throw me off a bit but these poems lent themselves really well to an interpretation. I did an essay the previous week on those poems except with "The Violets" instead of "The Spelling Prize", so I was able to draw upon that and modify it a bit. I was pleasantly surprised that they picked essentially the same set of poems. (Although I was pressed for time at the end.)

Since it's a pretty huge exam I might not have time to take photos of all of the pages, are there any specific texts people want to see the passages for? :)

That's good! I'm actually surprised at the inclusion of The Spelling Prize but I think it rounds off the other two poems really well. The Violets would have been too good to be true I think, so much in that poem. That and Estuary.

^that would be a good idea.

Haha yeah I had been praying The Violets would be in the exam all year actually. I wondered if they might repeat one of the older ones like one of the parts of Night and Dreams but thankfully they didn't.

Sorry I thought my camera was charged and that I'd be quickly able to take some photos but the batteries flat. :/
If you ask for specific texts I can tell you what they are! (Or at least tell you the first few lines of the excerpt!)
Sorry again! :(

Considering this is the final year for some time for both Hamlet and Emma, one would expect the VCAA to put up some really strong passages that hadn't come up before...whilst the Emma's weren't as bad as Hamlet, i thought it was really difficult to develop an essay through a strong intepretation.  It felt as though the passages were a bit disconnected with the absence of a soliloquy/major dialogue/contrasting setting etc.

What are your thoughts EZ?
