Constraints are things that constrain, restrict or stop something (generally a solution) from achieving its goal.

Lets say a homeless guy wants to buy a boat. Something that's stopping him from achieving his goal of buying a boat is not having any money, thus cost is a constraint for him.  Best example ever? I think so haha :P

The apocalypse is also a very suitable constraint.
