Best VCE Subjects

I've been told by numerous people the best subjects to do in VCE are Specialist, Methods, Chemistry and Physics simply due to the fact that through them subjects you have access to any university course.
Others also say you get your 'money's worth' since what you learn is significantly more valuable as opposed to other subjects.

Is this true?

I know that you should do subjects that you personally want to do and enjoy, I'm actually in Year 12 anyway this is just something that I'm curious about.

I'm sure many will say there are no real 'best courses' but take subjects like Specialist and Methods. You learn maths, but alongside that you learn how to problem solve which comes in handy in many situations (not only maths) and a subject like Specialist you really need to have a solid way in which you study and a view of the 'overall picture' to succeed in the subject which can help in future studies.

Really only Methods and Chemistry grant you access to a large range of courses. But visualise your end goal - if it doesn't require Methods or Chemistry, why bother?

Specialist offers high scaling subjects (up to 54, or 55 in some cases), which can provide a good boost to your ENTER - this is really only useful to people who are good at maths (and hence would most likely pick it because they like it).

I've found accounting, legal studies and methods to be my most useful VCE subjects.
I've no doubt that this is because I'm studying BCom (which includes a compulsory business law unit).

I think 'best' come down to a totally personal decision - a subject in your area of interest, or something that will get you where you want to go.

In terms of prerequisites, if you want to keep your options open it's best to do Chem and Methods (as coblin said) and maybe Spesh, because that is required for some courses. You should also invest a good amount of time into English. As for useful courses, apparently History Revs is closer to a university subject than most others. And obviously, whatever you're interested in studying is a good idea to start off with. Looking back on high school, all of my subjects have come in handy because I've just continued with my interests. Even methods was useful (despite the fact I do no maths now) for things like set theory as well as the ability to solve problems logically and systematically. Economics was also very useful for when I did political science. Lit also helped my writing ability.

You've probably heard it all too often but it really does depend on how you measure 'best'. A reasonable way to do this first requires that you to determine where you're headed, only then can you determine the best path to get there. As coblin already noted, if you don't require those subjects and don't like them then you probably shouldn't do them.

That said, if you're unsure I think that in many directions which you may choose to follow you'll encounter some amount of maths, so doing methods and specialist (especially if you enjoy them) may give you an edge. If not then I still think that the problem solving skills you can potentially develop will make pursuing those subjects worthwhile. I do feel like studying a fair amount of maths in year 12 helped me with my other subjects, although this may not be true for all.

If mean the best subjects are with the scaling then yes those subjects in addition of LOTE fulfill this criteria.

However, the word best those not necessary mean scaling, the best subjects are usually is whats best for you may it be doing business subjects, arts subjects, science, maths ..etc The best subjects is different for every individual at which they perform best at.

you have to pick the best subjects you think you can perform best at and from this you are able to achieve the score your course then you are shoe in. Dont forget prereq subs

I find politics and economics to be useful for real life. And some subjects have art as a prerequisite so the prerequisite argument isn't really a strong one unless you're interested in science. But I do really like methods.
