Don't bother :P Ask your teacher for some scholarly and uni-type journal articles on your texts, these will help you develop stronger ideas rather than a superficial book.

Yeah most useless thing ever :P Save the money and use it on specific text guides if you must, at least they're partially useful to everyone (increasingly so depending on what kind of student you are).

Chances are you will never, ever use it. Invest in something you will.

Thanks guides for your fantastic responses! I'm thinking of getting the AN Study Guide - English :)

Hey, I found the Year 11 version of their book pretty helpful this year, so don't completely dismiss it. However, I agree that you would be able to find similar resources elsewhere.

This, especially from a bad English student, but I like more concise pages that I can learn easily (I believe this book doesn't have that). I also agree with finding resources somewhere else.

EDIT: Look below, I also agree with that.

From my limited experience using it in class, when my teacher tries to justify us having to purchase it is that the content is pretty jaded.

This year, our teacher just gave us some photocopies (from that book) relevant to what we were doing. I think she (the teacher) mentioned that all that she found useful were the sections on tone/techniques for language analysis (there's more depth for this stuff,  though less organised, around the internet).

Honestly, using material found on ATARNotes (stickies, notes), as well as the copy of the AN study guide and assessment reports, you're pretty much set in terms of finding the requirements of the assessment tasks, and from there, either by yourself, with a teacher or a tutor, you can build upon the foundations these resources give you. The AN book is designed to allow you to further develop your essay writing techniques/strategies, as it gives you the fundamentals of structure, and different approaches.

These holidays, just familiarize yourself with the course, maybe purchase the AN book, read some stickies, and your texts... I don't think there's a need for that book you mentioned OP.
